National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR)
Organization: Ministry of Mines / GSI
NGDR is a comprehensive digital initiative of the Government of India aimed at collating, storing, and making publicly accessible all baseline geoscientific data generated by public and private exploration agencies, promoting mineral exploration investment.
National Open Data Geoscience Platform
Project Objectives
- •Design a high-performance open data catalog capable of querying terabytes of geospatial data.
- •Provide frictionless spatial discovery via an intuitive interactive web GIS map interface.
- •Simplify complex data download licensing, bulk requests, and metadata inspection.
- •Create a world-class exploration data gateway matching global benchmarks (USGS, Geoscience Australia).
Design Challenges
- •Massive heterogeneous file formats (Shapefiles, GeoTIFF, seismic SEG-Y, tabular borehole data).
- •Creating an intuitive spatial bounding-box query tool that runs smoothly in consumer browsers.
- •Clear distinction between open public datasets and proprietary restricted blocks.
